Jane Sawyer teapots – It is often acknowledged amongst potters that the most difficult form to make is a teapot. There are many elements that must fit together. The body must be lightweight and well-made in order to take those additional bits: lid, handle and spout and of-course, a full pot of tea. There are strange rules abounding in the world of tea connoisseurs that come from all sorts of fundamental ‘religions’. If anyone can make sense of them please tell me. I prefer to think of the teapot as a challenge in design, a complex form that has an undeniably practical purpose but that which can be explored and played with in a multitude of interesting ways. A classical teapot is no fun to make!
